Talk It Out

Updated: Oct 7, 2023

You are probably wondering what a Talk It Out session is. Great! Let me explain.

You all know I like telling stories, so let me give you a little back story. During the White Wall Sessions: A Night With Poets Mindz event, Kiba explained that "poets are more than poets, they are teachers, therapists, and so on" . Poets are able to express their emotions with words that others can feel and relate to. I was able to observe the poets' words move some people to tears. When the event was over, Kiba, a few other women, and I stayed behind just to talk. These women were vulnerable enough to share some personal issues with us. The majority of the time I listened because they needed someone to listen. I was able to pull away to talk to Kiba about the event and some things that I noticed. Being like minded, we bounced a lot of ideas off one another. We both had similar ideas with bringing women together and building them up, like a sisterhood. I told her that I would like to create a space for women to be vulnerable, similar to that night. We exchanged numbers, then left. The title, Talk It Out, came to me when I combined the ideas that we shared together.

After speaking with Kiba, we agreed that the purpose of this session is to create a safe space for women to be heard. At times, we prejudge people without knowing what they may be dealing with. We want to create a no judgement, no comparison, confidential, and safe space for women to be vulnerable, especially for those who may not have anyone to talk to.

Friday, June 30th at 7 pm will be our first Talk It Out session. Let me tell you, I am not a licensed therapist or counselor, but I have experienced life. I can say the same about Kiba. We are able to relate with women in many ways. This will be a peer support session.
